Invitation: China Committee on Religion and Peace Online International Seminar

The 3rd International Seminar on
Religions and Ecological Civilization

Asian Conference of Religions for Peace (ACRP) is pleased to announce China Committee on Religion and Peace will hold an online seminar in December.

At present, global warming-linked natural disasters and extreme weather—occurring with greater frequency—and the COVID-19 pandemic—which remains an upheaval within an upheaval—have had severe impacts on human life and health as well as economic and social development. A sound ecological environment is a critical public good that has implications for people’s livelihood and well-being as well as the future of mankind. The necessity of responding to global climate change while promoting the recovery of the world economy is a key issue we must address. In terms of multilateral engagement, the signing of the Paris Agreement is a significant milestone in the history of global climate governance. The 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is about to be held, and we expect the international community to make remarkable progress in implementing the Paris Agreement and jointly solving world climate problems.

Protecting the ecological environment to promote sustainable development is one of the issues jointly advocated by CCRP and Religions for Peace International. Chinese traditional culture has always advocated the harmonious coexistence between human and nature. Over the past decade, China’s ecological civilization development has made remarkable achievements, carrying out historical and transformative changes whiling making significant contributions to the international community’s adoption of the Paris Agreement. Since 2019, CCRP has held a series of international seminars on “Religions and Ecological Civilization” which have been successful in promoting cross-religious exchanges on environmental protection. This year, CCRP is inviting Religions for Peace International to co-host the third seminar which aims to further strengthening the dialogue, exchange and cooperation among different religions on ecological civilization. The dialogue will provide a platform for religious perspectives on global climate change, biodiversity protection and other issues, giving full play to the positive role of religious communities in promoting environmental protection, discussing and sharing solutions to environmental protection, and helping build a shared future for all life.

This seminar will host 6 Chinese and 6 foreign speakers, including world-renowned religious leaders, environmental experts, and representatives of non-governmental organizations from Asia, Europe, and the Americas, and will be open to all chapters from Religions for Peace International and ACRP.

The seminar will discuss the following topics;
• Green Development
• Low-carbon and eco-friendly lifestyles
• Faith’s positive role in environmental protection
• The role of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in addressing carbon emissions and protecting biodiversity and water resources.
• The role of Women of Faith in environmental protection
• Role of faith communities in encouraging governments to adopt sound environmental policies
