Established in June, 1994 and headquartered in Beijing, China Committee on Religion and Peace (CCRP for short) is a non-profit national mass organization with the status of independent legal person, consisting of representatives from five major religions in China (namely Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, Catholicism and Protestantism) while most of them are members of the national committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Its objectives include insisting on the principles of friendship, peace, development and cooperation, carrying forward the fine tradition of loving the country and religion, cherishing peace in the Chinese religious circles, taking the initiative to promote the unity and harmony among religious groups, further exchanges and cooperation with the religious circles in all countries, the religions for peace organizations of other countries and those at regional and world level, safeguarding the unification of the motherland and striving for world peace and common prosperity. CCRP joined the World Conference of Religions for Peace (named Religions for Peace since 2008) in 1994 and the Asian Conference of Religion for Peace (ACRP) in 1996 as the only state affiliate representing China in the two organizations above.
